U13s had a very successful Kent finals tournament on Sunday.
Report from Folkestone RFC U13s by Coach Roger Smith.
Sunday 7th April 2019 Folkestone RFC U13’s success at Kent Finals.
After a challenging start to the season the steady improvement shown throughout the season and the commitment of the players was rewarded when the Folkestone Rugby U13s had a very successful Kent finals tournament on Sunday. They faced Sevenoaks Tigers & Whitstable and came away winning their group to receive the Kent Tankard.
Playing Whitstable first, the forwards asserted themselves and gave the backs a platform from which they scored 4 first half tries. Max Pickering led the charge with two virtuoso tries. The second half saw Whitstable score two unanswered tries before Folkestone reasserted dominance with another 4 tries with Cairo Ellis and Lian Lambert getting their names on the scoresheet.
The final score was 8 tries to 2. The job was half done - one more match and Folkestone would win the Kent Tankard.
The match against Sevenoaks was tough. The defences of both teams held firm during a tense first quarter until Kian Lambert broke their lines to score the first try. Once Sevenoaks’ defence was breached Folkestone took full advantage and asserted dominance. The Folkestone scrum was faultless and ensured the fast-paced backs had the space to carve creative lines. A solid performance from the whole team ensured Folkestone won 9 tries to 2 and secured the Kent Tankard.
