14th December 2014 Report by Alison Hughes

A great start saw some good handling and a super sprint down the outside from Freddie Faiers who went over the line to open the scoring for Folkestone within the first minutes. Ash managed to charge down the conversion. Within the next few minutes we had deja vu as Faiers, once again, after some good three quarter handling charged down the wing and round the back of the posts for Folkestone’s second try, which was nicely converted by William Mead. However, Folkestone rested on their laurels and silly errors led to a penalty for Ash who duly cleared the ball back down field. Folkestone managed to get a hand into Ash’s line out and gained ground, only to face a determined Ash defence. Their determination couldn’t hold however, and Dylan Barnes powered over the line. Folkestone missed the conversion. Following a scrum, in which Ash proved to be the heavier pack, Folkestone regained possession and Ted Bean took his first try of the match which was superbly converted by William Mead.

The second half started shakily for Folkestone, but they picked up the pace and Aurelien Austin scored his first try of the match and again William Mead converted. Folkestone dominated much of the play with some fine tackles by William Rayner, Tom Whelan and Johnnie Hobbs. Hobbs also executed a super charge down. Dylan Barnes and Tom Whelan gained Folkestone some excellent ground and Freddie Faiers finished with his third try. No conversion this time though. An excellent tackle from TJ Leather against a much heavier Ash led to Mr Faiers taking his fourth try. No conversion. Play continued with Folkestone dominating and Dylan Barnes putting in some super tackles and William Mead driving the ball forward. Joseph Faiers this time managed to find the space a crash through Ash’s defence but no conversion. The last set piece of play saw Aurelien Austin powering for the line only to pass unselfishly to TJ Leather who put the ball over for his first try. Aurelien completed the scoring with a conversion.

All in all a good day for Folkestone!
