Folkestones' handling and defence improved as the game went on.

Folkestone U13 17 Tunbridge Wells U13 7
Sunday 9th November 2014 Report by Alison Hughes

Not a great start with Folkestone’s kick not going 10. However Folkestone gave a mighty push to Tunbridge’s scrum. The ball came out and Tonbridge felt the full force of a Johnnie Hobbs’ tackle. This didn’t however gain Folkestone much ground due to some sloppy passing and dubious receiving. Folkestone managed a good clearance from William Mead but the ball ended up in touch. Tonbridge had the line out but Folkestone got a hand in and Dylan Barnes carried the ball over the line with a conversion by William Mead. 7-0.

The restart saw Johnnie Hobbs put in extra effort and drive through Tunbridge’s maul. Aurelien Austin powered through Tunbridge’s defence and William Rayner touched down to secure Folkestone’s second try. There was no conversion. 12-0.

The restart gave Tonbridge room to show their disciplined passing, only to be tumbled by some excellent tackling from Johnnie Hobbs and Aurelien Austin. Play remained in Folkestone’s 22 with Tunbridge powering through most of Folkestone’s defence until they came up against a resilient Tom Whelan who pushed them into touch for the half time whistle. 12-0.

Johnnie Hobbs and Tom Whelan’s superb tackling up front continued into the second half and both teams battled through a downpour. Following a Folkestone scrum with a good burst of speed James Hughes managed to nip over the line to gain Folkestone’s third try. No conversion. 17-0.

Tunbridge restarted with vigour and crashed through all of Folkestone’s defence to gain their first and last try of the match with a lovely conversion. 17-7.

The remainder of the match saw Ted Bean put in some crunching tackles and TJ Leather steal some nice ball. There were some great efforts from Tiarnan Canning and William Rayner making up some good ground for the Folkestone lads.

In the last minutes Tunbridge conceded a scrum to Folkestone by way of a knock on and William Mead kicked for touch to end the match.
