The first touch of the ball saw play taken into touch just into the Folkestone half. A knock on gave Deal the first scrum. However, good scrummaging by Folkestone took the ball back into Deal’s half and a quick penalty taken by Will Mead gave Freddie Faiers a try right under the posts. This was duly converted by Will Mead to open the scoring for Folkestone. 7-0.
Following the restart, a knock on by Deal gave Folkestone the scrum. Folkestone created space and gained ground only to lose it again to a knock forward. Play was taken back up field to Folkestone’s half but was halted by a crunching tackle from Ted Bean. Good quick hands took the ball back into Deal’s half and saw Will Rayner score over the try line. No conversion. 12-0.
A quick restart and Deal took play up into Folkestone’s half. Folkestone failed to use a scrum awarded to them to any advantage and only conceded a further scrum to Deal. Good defence by Folkestone though enabled them to tidy up play. Deal responded with a good scrum from a penalty awarded right in front of the posts and they were over the try line. No conversion. 12-5.
Following the restart Deal occupied much of Folkestone’s half but were held back by some good tackling from TJ Leather and Johnnie Hobbs. This however did not stop Deal crashing through eventually to get a well-deserved try. 12-10.
No ground was gained by either side following the restart and Folkestone came away with a scrum on the half way line. Deal cranked up the pace and won the ball, running it up pitch. This was followed by some superior passing and Deal powered over the try line and converted. 12-17.
Folkestone did respond by attacking but were cut short by the half time whistle.

The second half saw Deal drive Folkestone back but Will Rayner counter-attacked and gained Folkestone some much needed ground. This came to nought via some poor passing from Folkestone which enabled Deal to take control of play again and push the ball up field. Folkestone held their defence and secured a scrum. A rousing talk by Johnnie Hobbs and the desired effect and the ball was moved out to Freddie Faiers, he bolted down field and crashed over the line. Will Mead converted. 19-17.
A feisty restart by Folkestone was halted by a crunching tackle on Finley Russell. Folkestone benefitted from a scrum following a double knock on. The ball went loose and Tiarnan Canning demonstrated some superb tackling. Following a Deal scrum the ball was cleared back up to the half way line. However a penalty by Deal gained Folkestone some much needed ground and Ted Bean ran the ball back up to Deal’s 22. A quick off-load by Will Mead to Aurelien Austin saw Folkestone gain another try. No conversion. 24-17.
A quick restart saw Deal gain much ground then benefit from a penalty which resulted in them soaring over the try line. No conversion. 24-22.
Tom Whelan and TJ Leather took the ball up into Deal’s half and then Dylan Barnes took it over the line. No conversion. 29-22.
Joseph Faiers stopped Deal benefiting after the restart and Dylan Barnes again ran with ball in hand straight up field and scored. Will Mead converted. 36-22.
Deal took the ball back up into Folkestone’s half and Dylan Barnes tried to clear but the ball was charged down by Deal and they changed the direction of play and went over the line for a try. No conversion. 36-27.
Ted Bean stopped Deal’s onslaught after the restart with a cracking tackle enabling Folkestone to regroup. The ball was stolen by Deal and a knock on by Folkestone gave them the scrum. Folkestone grabbed the ball back and Kirkland Otto sprinted for the line to score the last try of the match. Aurelien Austin narrowly missing the conversion. 41-27.
