On another fine day, with the pitch firm under foot, Stone’s were always going to be under heavy pressure from one of the finest back lines in the county, coupled with the fact that the Stones squad had been weakened by the winter flu. Throw in the fact their forwards match the backs for commitment and fitness and Stone’s can take some consolation they managed 12 points from two excellent run ins by James Porter and a conversion from Dougie Wood.
Charlie Green nearly touched down after a darting run and with some close support Stone’s could have added another 15 points from break away runs by Green and Porter.
For any chance of a decent result, Stone’s forwards needed to break up the Medway play but were too slow to the ball and weak in the tackle. Again and again Medway forwards won the ball for their backs to put on a stunning display of speed and accuracy. Folkestone should bear in mind that without the Medway left winger on the pitch, who caused so much damage in the first half, they began to hold their own with some good tackling from Sid Gurung, George Way, Cam Seagrove, Louie Bolton & James Evans. The ever industrious Dougie Wood provided Stone’s with some decent opportunities throughout the game.
