After some delay the match got underway at 11:20. There was some good early pressure from Folkestone with good rucking which saw the ball eventually come out to Travis on the wing who was unlucky to knock on when moving toward the Aylesford try line. However, more good rucking, drives and running saw Charlie Watson make the pressure tell with a try but he was unable to convert from an awkward angle. Score 0-5 to Folkestone.
The Aylesford Bisons were tackling well all through the team and holding Stones out but a good tackle from George saw Liam pick up the ball and make a charge down field before being stopped. A few sloppy passes saw possible tries go begging for Folkestone but they had Aylesford pinned down in their half. Rex and Travis made a couple of good runs with Rex tackling well at centre. Stones other centre, Sid, was causing his usual havoc with good runs.
Folkestone were losing a lot of balls against the head in the scrum despite not being under any real pressure in the forwards. A 22 drop put was fielded by George who ran through and over two Aylesford players to score Folkestone’s second try that was not converted. Score 0-10 to Folkestone.
George then followed up on a sloppy pass from the Aylesford scrum half in midfield to run in a third try under the posts, converted by Charlie Watson. Score 0-17 to Folkestone and half time.
Following the restart Shaun made a good tackle in midfield but pressure from Aylesford following a lost scrum and several missed tackles saw them score. Score 5-17. Aylesford were starting the second half with new life and broke away for Jack Hill to make a tackle to force them into touch. Despite his size Oscar out on the wing was getting involved and making tackles, runs and setting up the ball well. Dylan was spoiling well all over the pitch. From the base of a ruck the ball was passed out by Shaun along the back line to get out to Rex who ran half the pitch to score a converted try by Charlie Watson. Score 5-24.
Aylesford, however, were not finished and following a scrum and good support play, rucking and passing, drove toward the Folkestone line to force a try. Final score 10-24 Folkestone.
A good morale win for the boys after recent tough games but perhaps still some work needed in getting ourselves organised and generally getting those rugby brains to switch on.
