The Spitfire

It's taking off and we need your help

Both Dover and Canterbury have had to cancel their Sevens tournaments this year so it's good to see that our Spitfire Tournament remains popular. As of today (23 May) we have 8 clubs entered in the men's event and 6 in the ladies competition. This is the first time we have ran a competition for the "fairer sex". There are 2 vacancies for the Ladies.
There is also 2 vacancies in the Men's event.

The winners of each competition will receive a cash prize and trophy to take home with them.

The men's event, so far, is:

FRFC
University Vandals
Gary Glitter's Under 16 Squad (Charlie Millen's (who else) team)
Ashford
Medway (The holders)
Whitstable
Old Rutlishians
Sheppey

The ladies event is:

FRFC
Castle Cary
Blackheath
Ashford
Dover
Southampton (possibly)

2 more teams would be ideal.

The tournament will begin at 10am on Sunday 26 August and will run through the day finishing off in the late afternoon.
We are inviting teams to stay overnight on Saturday (25th) and Sunday (26th). Pitch 2 will become a camp site with teams camping out for free. An outside bar and entertainment is available on the Saturday evening.
It's a Bank Holiday on the 27th so we'll be hosting a party on the Sunday evening after the tournament with a live band and disco. It's free to all visiting teams and our own members. Both of the social events are to be hosted by Caroline Hurley and Moose Murray. these 2 are serious party goers so look forward to a lor of fun.

To run this event we will need club members to volunteer as pitch marshalls, BBQ cooks, administrators, a clean-up team and a security team to sleep at the club on the Saturday and Sunday nights. If you can help please let me know by email:

Many thanks to Moose Murray, John Kidson and Caroline Hurley who have been a great help in organising this event.

There is no truth in the rumours that the legendary Blue Nun Brigade will put in an appearance at the tournament!
