Folkestone RFC Under 12s

Kent Minis Finals Tournament at Aylesford RFC
Sunday 27th April 2014 Report from Alison Hughes.

Folkestone 2 vs Gravesend 2

A good early push by Folkestone forwards gained them much ground. Superb passing led to an excellently finished try by Tom Whelan. Ted Bean tackled his opponent in to touch to slow down an attack by Gravesend. Folkestone had a try by Freddie Faiers held up only to regroup and be stopped again just before half time. The second half saw an increased attack by Gravesend and resulted in another try being held up. Gravesend continued to dominate and were rewarded with a try. We saw a good break through by Dylan Barnes but Gravesend showed their organisation to the full and it highlighted holes in Folkestone’s defence.

Sittingbourne 0 – Folkestone 2

A fantastic run by Dylan Barnes and a try finished off by Freddie Faiers meant Folkestone started well. Unfortunately slow resets of scrums slowed the game down considerably and this led to scrappier play in the latter part of the first half. The second half saw yet another good drive by the forwards followed by some fluid passing, only to be let down my a missed catch. A clean finish by Johnnie Hobbs followed a decisive set piece to secure another try for Folkestone.

Cranbrook 0 – Folkestone 0

Freddie Faiers gained ground with a kick for territory. Unfortunately a good opportunity to score was denied by Folkestone diving over the ball. Cranbrook had the put in at the scrum which enabled them to retake ground. Folkestone ended the first half on the back foot. The second half started with a lovely kick for touch and ground gained by Dylan Barnes only once again to be lost to Cranbrook who fielded a good recovery. Ted Bean managed to get a sneaky hand on the ball in an attempt to disrupt Cranbrooks line out. This was followed by a super steal from Aurelien Austin to set up another scrum for Folkestone however nothing came from this set piece and the remainder of the match tested Folkestone’s defence.

With the results in and the points counted, Folkestone came away with the Shield. Well done Lads.
