Too hard to handle!

Fourteen Under 11s made the journey for the traditional mid-winter matches at Sheppey and for a change no snow on the ground or sub-zero temperatures, very pleasant.

In keeping with tradition the boys got off to a slow start with some loose passing and lackadaisical tackling allowing Medway to open up an early lead in the first match. Folkestone woke up and Kieran Dorrell opened the Under 11s account for the morning in a better second half which gave some encouragement for the rest of the morning despite a 15-5 loss.

After a team discussion about the first match and some focus on passing in the next warm up, the second match kicked off against Medway again. The fact that Folkestone had now got into their stride and were playing some good determined rugby didn't go down very well with the Medway coach and unfortunately the game was held up for some time whilst Medway complained about Folkestone playing "too hard". This was when Medway were trailing after taking an early lead, Kian Supple and Cameron Brown putting Folkestone in front with a try each. Medway equalised at the start of the second half through a second solo effort by their pacey winger. Folkestone clicked into top gear in the second half, Cohen Double scoring to put Folkestone ahead and then Tristan Parmenter sealing the deal with Folkestone's fourth try. A 20-10 deserved win for the Stones, which was down as much to improved scrummaging, determined tackling and some very good passing as it was the try scoring.

Final match against home side Sheppey. Folkestone had the look of a team who had decided that playing well suits them and as the kick off from Thomas Reina went over towards the corner, Tristan Parmenter had chased it up determinedly and didn't need any of the support that had ran with him as he scooped the ball up and went over the try line to ground for a cheeky opener. Folkestone were now passing the ball well in addition to some excellent rucking that brought the Stones a lot of possession and allowed them to stretch their lead, with Tom Cloke ensuring the possession wasn't wasted and intelligently speeding through the Sheppey defence to score. Folkestone then took a 15-0 lead after another patch of pressurising the Sheppey defence, this time Thomas Reina applied the finish. Sheppey got back into the match with a good breakaway try from one of their fast players but Folkestone knuckled down, continued to dominate possession and Archie Green stole a loose ball after a ruck and barged over the line to complete the scoring, another fully deserved win, 20 points to 5.

An excellent all round performance from all of the young Stones, Toby Walton and player of the week Lewis Hammerton had been typically determined throughout the morning winning a lot of ball for their teammates, Ryan Adams continued to chase the ball and apply pressure to the opposition, Ethan Holt was driving well in scrum and maul and Leon Gurr and Jos Marnham put in good shifts on the wings, both defending well and getting forward when in posession.

Squad: Leon Gurr, Jos Marnham, Ryan Adams, Ethan Holt, Lewis Hammerton, Toby Walton, Archie Green, Thomas Reina, Tom Cloke, Tristan Parmenter, Cohen Double, Kian Supple, Kieran Dorrell and Cameron Brown.
