Sunday 25th October 2015 Folkestone U10’s at Cranbrook RFC

Folkestone Fireflys (under10's) travelled to Cranbrook this Sunday to participate in a development competition. This relatively inexperienced team faced three opponents in Pool B. Their initial encounter saw them playing Maidstone A, despite storming runs by Max Pickering and Zackary Davenport Folkestone were unable to cross the try line. Maidstone did take their chances winning 2-0, not really reflecting the true Folkestone performance.
The home team Cranbrook were the next opponents who by half time led 3-0, but the Folkestone team kept their heads up as they took to the field for the second half and through some tactical changes Folkestone scored two tries, one each from Callum Howes and Zackary Davenport. Although this was not quite enough, finally losing 4-2.

From the outset in their final pool game against Tunbridge, Stones demonstrated they had learnt so much from their initial games. Their self belief was evident and the ability to finish was demonstrated through the five tries scored by Max Pickering, George Edwards, Hugh Evans and 2 for Zackary Davenport by winning 5-3. This fantastic performance progressed them to the Bowl semi-final.

The Fireflys faced Sittingbourne in the semi-final, from the whistle this was an evenly matched game, with both sides putting together some good passages of play. As the game progressed the Folkestone side grew in confidence and great running play from Riley Gordon and Jake Langford allowed both Max Pickering and George Edwards to cross the line, Folkestone winning 2-0.

Making the final was a magnificent achievement by this team and proud parents watched as they took to the field as finalists against Old Colfeians. Rightly so, this game was a closely matched affair, the Old Colfeians soon broke the deadlock, but the Stones did not let their heads drop. Oakley Price, at scrumhalf, put in a clinical performance, providing good balls that allowed Riley Gordon to level the score. The second half again was a repeat of the first with Old Colfeians scoring to take the lead, the Fireflys continued to show determination, with Daniel Lundie and James Uden defending well. With only 2 minutes Edwards drew the score level once again, however with the last play the opposition scored a third winning 3-2. A well earned first trophy of the season for Folkestone under 10's.
