The stage was set for some incredible rugby, as Saracens were due to play Leicester Tigers following the tournament in front of a sell out crowd.

FRFC U10's at the Saracens RFC Allianz

On Saturday 11th April Folkestone Rugby Club proudly took a squad of 12 Under 10 players to the Allianz to play in the finals of the Allan Day Cup, following their success at the 1st stage in the tournament last year. The stage was set for some incredible rugby, as Saracens were due to play Leicester Tigers following the tournament in front of a sell out crown of 12,000.
Folkestone first test was against a very strong Royston side. Both sides looked nervous in the early exchanges. The game increased in physicality with every play, and the crowd looked on with respect at the intensity at which the game was played. Royston scored first and Folkestone were down 1-0 at the break. Undeterred, they started the second half with the same tenacity they had finished the first, and were able to score to bring the game level just before the final whistle.
The second game brought a sterner challenge against the hosts, Saracens themselves. Whilst Saracens had the majority of territory in the first half, the Stones defence held strong. Saracens did draw first blood with a well worked try, but Folkestone again increased their intensity, and after a great game of rugby the score was even at 2 a piece.
The final group game was against Hitchin. Folkestone knew that they must win to stay in with a chance of reaching the next stage, and win they did. The green and whites put in their best performance of the day, and ran out deserved 5-1 winners. The large crowd voted a try in this game the best of the day, as we saw every Folkestone player on the pitch touch the ball in one phase before the ball eventually crossing the line in the corner. The group stage was over, and Folkestone had won the group.
Folkestone had a short break before their semi-final against a much bigger Westcliff side. The winner of this game would go through to play in the final at half time of the senior game. Folkestone battled valiantly, but were unable to push back their much heavier opponents like they had in previous games. The final score was 4-1 to Westcliff, which meant the end to the playing day for FRFC. Needless to say, the coaches, parents and supporters, as well as the whole of Folkestone Rugby Club, are immensely proud of the achievement of the youngsters.
The players and coaches would like to thank their sponsors – Barretts, Anton and L&K Building Services for providing them with kit and making them look the complete outfit on the day. They would also like to invite any potential new players to join them for a training session at Folkestone Rugby Club this Sunday from 10am.
Squad: Maddox Francis (Captain), Lucio Decicco, Edward Faiers, Lewis Wade, Harry Dean, Jim Duncan, William Hannah, Bradley Dorrell, Oscar Macdonald, Ryen Morton, Connor Horne, George Ford.
