Victory at Dover

The trip to Dover was a blustery one, building winds, but thankfully not driving rain saw the U13s take on a Dover side for a local derby.
From the outset, the Folkestone side looked strong, the newer players settling in to their roles and the return of Joseph Faiers adding to the strength already in the group.

The boys had clearly listened in training and were more effective in rucking this week resulting in a more open game.
Folkestone did take a deserved lead in the first half, tries from Kieran Dorrell and a few minutes later from Joseph Faiers on his return. These were deserved rewards from some intelligent play on each occasion the side worked the try well as a team.
The boys continued working hard, denying Dover a route back into the game, defending well, keeping Dover scoreless for the first half.

The start of the second half had the Folkestone parents hoping the advantage with the wind behind them and the downward slope would see them march further on, but instead it was Dover who pressed and took the score back to 10-10.
The Folkestone lads once again showed increasing determination, and while Dover were still pressing Folkestone never faltered, in fact Folkestone had a series of good runs threatening to score.
Folkestone’s efforts were rewarded with a penalty, which Cameron Brown elected to kick with just over 5 minutes to go. The kick went straight through the centre of the posts giving Folkestone a 13-10 lead.
The final few minutes were nerve-wracking, Dover fought hard to try to score and would have done so if not for Folkestone’s determination to hold on to the victory; each player defending brilliantly.

Coach Terry Holt commented after that game how he thought each boy was magnificent today.
