Folkestone Under 14s Rugby

A beautiful but really hot day with a hard pitch faced our reduced squad and lads.
Doug Woods made an excellent kick off was picked up by the big Thanet number 3 to head off on a strong run brought to an end by James and followed up by good tackling from Jack Lord but Thanet were able to pass out and run in an early try that was converted under the posts. 7-0.
The restart saw Thanet take the ball up and after a series of missed tackles they ran in another try that was again converted under the posts. 14-0.
Folkestone began to rally and we saw some good tackling from Cameron Saunders and Sam in midfield. Cameron Sanders then made a great run up field to be tackled but pass the ball out to Doug who kicked up field. George chased well but couldn’t quite make the ground to beat the Thanet to touchdown. Folkestone were pressing Thanet now.
A penalty to Folkestone was taken on by Jack lord who passed out o Alvin to make a run down the left touchline. Some good Folkestone scrummaging saw the ball kicked on to be chased down by Cameron Saunders who picked it up and passed out to Ben Proctor who just knocked on yards from the Thanet line.
Unfortunately, Thanet then broke away after the sustained Folkestone pressure to score another converted try. 21-0 and end of the first 20.
With the heat the boys were taking regular drink breaks.
The restart was caught by Cameron Saunders who ran it back brilliantly for Folkestone’s try that was converted by Doug Woods. 21-7.
Jack Lord lost the ball in a maul following a penalty take on and Thanet broke away only for George Way to make a great tackle to force a knock on. Folkestone than won a lineout and the ball was passed through the backs to Charlie Green to head off down the wing but he was scragged and the Thanet forwards drove us back in the maul to eventually force a try over the line that was not converted. 26-7.
Ben Proctor brilliantly chased the kick off and nearly recovered the ball with the try line just yards away. Unfortunately, Thanet picked up and again after several missed tackle broke through out wide to score. 33-7.
The restart saw Thanet pick up the ball in a ruck and the big number 3 bore down on Harry who put in a great tackle to stop the man but Thanet following up were able to carry it on to clinch the final score. 38-7 Final.
A lot of heart again from the boys, with some great tackles but often too many missed tackles-take the legs. The scrum was solid and in fact we won a couple against the head despite Thanet’s obvious size advantage.
