Folkestone U14s 0 Canterbury U14s 64
Sunday 23rd October 2016 Report from Neil Adams
Folkestone started the week full of hope of a great game against rivals Canterbury, but as the week progressed the number of players unavailable to play grew and grew. (Start of Half Term week?)
Match day saw 16 Folkestone players line up to face Canterbury, a side to whom at the end of last season Folkestone gave a clear sign of intent. Sadly with the missing list of players Folkestone knew this was going to harder than anticipated.
Much of the game was played out in the Folkestone half, with Canterbury scoring too freely at times. Knocks to the Stones lads during the game and players forced to play out of position added to the drama, with Alfie Dove and Harry Wells both suffering.
However, nothing daunted the Folkestone lads, certainly not the score line. Throughout the match each boy played hard, not letting each other’s heads drop. Teamwork is becoming one of the team’s strengths and it was this teamwork that set up an individual opportunity for Joseph Faiers, getting the ball to Joseph who kicked the ball down the field, chased and came close to earning what would have been a well-deserved try.
This week’s Man of the Match was awarded by the Coaches to Tristan Parmenter for his dogged determination throughout the game.
