With a few timely changes to the rules the lads set about their first battle

Sunday 16th May 2016.

After the previous evenings jollies it was an early start to push through to Bethune where the lads had troops coming in from all sides of Europe.
With a few timely changes to the rules the lads set about their first battle and with some great support from the ground crews set about their first pool game against Migennes 1 for the lads 10-0.
Next game and with the lads on a high come up against a strong side from Utrecht only being 7 Mins each way it was heavily fought by both sides with the Boys winning 5-0.
Quarter finals (Reims)
Due to delays in the Morning these were played at a straight 10 Mins.
Folkestone lads got off to a flying start getting that all important first try as in the rules of the Tournament if it was a score draw then the first try would win.
2 more tries followed to give the boys their 4th win 15-0.
Semi Final (Finances)
With so much confidence from their wins the lads and back to 7 mins each way they began to take apart the opposition even a couple of Chris Ashton’s were put into the corners to finish off. 5 out of 5
Final (Dunkerque)
Was an absolute belter for both players and spectators setting off invites from other clubs to go to their clubs next Year.
This one was tight with good attacking and defence from both sides a game that had all watching with open mouths as from his own 10m line Freddie Faiers chasing his own kick watched the ball bounced up and stayed up for what seemed like an eternity all the defence gathered round him.
Then The hand of God appeared above the swarm and literally with his finger tips and with the cheers of all watching took the ball another 22 metres to score what was definitely, not only the try of the day/match but that all important first try. Dunkerque came back into the game with an equaliser and the only conceded try of the tournament Folkestone regrouped knowing they had the first try in the bag secured the ball and drove up the field to get their 2nd and final try of what was undoubtedly a fantastic display of 15 man Rugby.
Mission accomplished 2 Winners Trophies and 1 Team of the tournament Trophy.
Any Coach would have been Proud of their team for this performance.
Well done lads.
Paul Turner (Coach)
