ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE FROM STONES AND ANOTHER BIG WIN.

Sunday 6th March. Report from Neill Austin

Stones found themselves playing against a mixed U14/U15 side on Sunday at Ash and decided to concentrate on technique and speed to outwit their larger opponents to great effect.

A few opening route one charges from the Ash forwards came to nothing as the Stones tackling was sound. A clever chip forward by Dylan Barnes collected by himself led to the opening try which was converted by James Hughes giving Stones a 0-7 advantage.
Next a typical break was made by Tom Whelan making ground before feeding to William Rayner who scored in the corner, Stones were now ahead 0-12.
As half time approached a sloppy Ash tap back from a line out led to Tom Whelan stealing the ball and running 30 metres to score under the posts with James Hughes adding the extra 2 points giving Stones a 0-19 advantage.

The second half was a very one sided affair as the heavier Ash pack started to slow. Dylan Barnes made a good break before being bundled into touch near the Ash line, Stones won the Ash throw in and the ball was fed to James Hughes who dummied his opposite number to score and then added the extra points himself 0-26.
A series of penalties near the Ash line led to Freddie Faiers outpacing the whole Ash back line to score in the corner 0-31. Next a storming run from Adam Butler saw him held up on the line only for the pack to secure good ball and feed quickly to James Hughes who found Adam Butler back in space to score under the posts with James Hughes adding the extra points 0-38.
At this point with the game drawing to a close Ash scored a consolation try 5-38, but the Stones wanted to end on a high and another good run from Dylan Barnes and a quick feed to William Rayner unstoppable from 5 metres out and a further try converted by James Hughes 5-45.
Still more was to come and from a scrum 5 metres out the ball was fed to James Leather who seemed to have scored only for James Hughes to have actually grounded the ball and claim the try, the extra points being added by James Hughes, to bring the final score to 5-52 in favour of the Stones.

This was another very solid performance from the Stones and the side goes from strength to strength. Next Sunday will see the Kent Bowl final against Sevenoaks - the first of two finals for this impressive Stones squad.
