Friday 17th November. Floodlit Friday at Canterbury RFC.
Apart from Folkestone 3rds there was a team from Ash RFC, Canterbury RFC and a mixed team made up from Dover RFC and Medway RFC.
The first game was Canterbury v Folkestone 3rds. This ended 22-7 in Canterbury's favour. Folkestone made the mistake of kicking the ball away for Canterbury to run it back to score 4 tries and one conversion. Folkestone replied with just the one converted try.
The second Folkestone 3rds game was against the "Medarc" combined squad. Again Folkestone made the same mistakes again and suffered a 17-5 defeat. Yet again drawing the short straw and played up the hill.
The third Folkestone 3rds game was against Ash with Folkestone again attacking uphill, however there was less kicking possession away in this 15 minute game which ended in a 0-0 draw. By this time the mercury had dropped to 1C and the time was spent evenly in both sides 22 metre zones with some desperate tackling and defending, all to no avail as the try lines of both sides remained intact.
As there were several players for the 3rds that both Steve Hughes and myself did not recognise, maybe somebody could send in the try scorers and kicker! Names for the Team photo would also be appreciated!
Folkestone 3rdXV: Bob Porter, Alan Bacon, Keith "Chops" Packham; Sol Fudge, Kevin Gurr; Paul Bartlett (Capt.), Charlie Kitchenham, Justin Lloyd-Cowden; Kyran Page, Aidan Fudge; Brice Dempster, Shane Hills, Ed Funnell, Reuben Fudge; Anthony Pace.
Subs: Nick Ryall, Kalum Smith, Josh Parsons, Paul Munday?
Scorers: Shane Hills 5; Kyran Page 2; Unknown 5.
The above Players names will appear GREEN on the Club WEBSITE IF the player has signed up on to the website!
Those names in black still need to sign-up on the Website with their details!!
All in all a very cold but enjoyable evening under the lights on Canterbury's 1stXV pitch. With over 60 players of varying ages, ability and skills taking part as well as several Kent Society Referees the Kent RDO's must have been pleased with the outcome of the six matches played.
There will be more Fridays before free Saturday's which might mean the 3rds travelling a bit further afield.
The Folkestone squad must be looking forward to the Crawley Bulldogs away on 23rd February and hosting their own Floodlit Friday on 16th March in the New Year when hopefully it might not be quite so cold!
