FOLKESTONE LOSE AFTER VERY CLOSE ENCOUNTER

FOLKESTONE 10 pts. WESTCOMBE PARK 12 pts. 29th November 2025

Folkestone hosted Westcombe Park II on Saturday in atrocious, slippery conditions that made open, flowing rugby almost impossible.
From the kick-off the visitors applied early pressure, forcing Stones to defend deep inside their own 22. A lineout close to the Folkestone line allowed Park’s forwards to drive over for a converted try, giving them a 0–7 lead.
The game then swung back and forth, with neither side able to establish real rhythm. Park continued to test the home defence, but a forced error allowed Folkestone to regain possession and kick upfield. Park’s scramble defence failed to secure the loose ball, enabling Greg Wood to pounce and score. The conversion levelled the match at 7–7.
Westcombe Park responded immediately from the restart, regathering possession and kicking into the Stones’ red zone. Another loose ball fell kindly for the visitors, who crossed for an unconverted try to regain the lead at 7–12.
Folkestone struck back with sustained pressure, forcing Park into errors and earning a very kickable penalty, which was pushed wide. Park then worked their way back into Folkestone territory, but a series of mistakes from both teams produced a scrappy passage of play with little progress made.
Eventually Stones forced Park into conceding another penalty, and Callum Palmeri made no mistake this time, narrowing the gap to 10–12.
The closing stages were tense. Park attacked again from the restart, but Folkestone’s defence held firm. A long clearance kick temporarily relieved pressure, only for a handling error to hand Park possession once more. Stones responded with strong defensive sets, trapping Park inside their own 22, but from a lineout the visitors regained control and expertly ran down the clock to secure a narrow victory.
Despite the defeat, Stones can take pride in a spirited and determined performance against a side bolstered by players with National 2 East experience.
