Trebles for show.....

A well attended midweek training session last Wednesday kicked off the week with Ricky's special guest star, Kev Mackenzie lending a much appreciated hand to proceedings.

On Sunday a squad travelled to Howe Barracks, Canterbury for a sort of East Kent Festival. The promise the squad has recently shown in training matches was there in the first match where one missed tackle gave Canterbury the only try of the match and should have been bettered by Folkestone who twice put themselves in a scoring position but didn't take the opportunity as they failed to pass at the crucial moment, opting to head for the defending Canterbury players instead. The wheels came off in the next match when Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks both came out of retirement to put in a stint for Whitstable U11s who rumbled through the Folkestone defence to win by four tries unanswered, Folkestones tackling was poor in this game. Ashford won the next match by three tries to nothing, though this was a much better effort from the Stones who then got back to some form in the final match against Thanet. This was a keenly contested game with a lot of players playing out of their normal positions due to several injuries by this stage in the festival. The match finished scoreless, Folkestone unlucky not to score when a Thanet player put in a great covering tackle on Joseph Faiers when he was heading for the line. Results wise this was a disappointing festival, particularly given recent form but it has given us some pointers before the Kent Festival prelims at the end of the month.

Training and fitness with Ricky this Wednesday is at the Folkestone Academy 1830hrs to 2000hrs.

Nothing for kitwatch this week.

On Sunday we are training at the club, I think it will be a busy session, hopefully the weather will stay as is.

Finally player of the week. Despite the disappointing results, there were a lot of very good performances on Sunday and some players did very well to play out of preferred or normal positions at the end. There were two or three players who by the end of the day had been front row, second row and played in the backs so well done to everyone, however, player of the week is Cohen Double who had a determined morning of play, he tackled well, carried the ball well and passed too, Cohen, being not exactly tiny himself also managed to cope with the physicality of the Whitstable lads better than most, well done Cohen!
