A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
It’s my sad duty to inform our club members that club stalwart Alan Schofield past away peacefully in hospital yesterday, Monday the 10th August.
Alan joined the club 26 years ago after moving to the area .He had been a league referee around his home county of Yorkshire and needed to keep himself busy after his retirement. We of course welcomed Alan with open arms, and he set to work sorting out our playing areas using his other passion, gardening.
For many years Alan ran touch in all conditions, always airing on Folkestone's side when a tight decision had to be made. He also created the match reports for most of this time, and continued to do this with the help of a good friend right up to the end of last season.
I had the pleasure of presenting Alan with a carriage clock only 10 days ago, when he as always took the opportunity to tell me that the lines that I had cut in weren’t straight.
He will be sadly missed by the Friday volunteers Gary, Ian, Bingo and Joe who have also put in many shifts under Alan’s guidance.
Our thoughts go out to his wife Fay and surrounding family. The club has offered in any way we can help, but Alan’s wishes were for a small family send off which we fully appreciate.
Best wishes,
Glenn Foreman
