Who said Zumba was just for girls? Our rugby players will tell you different!...

Club Manager Stacey with the U14s Rugby Lads.

On Friday 17th November 9 lucky players from Folkestone Rugby Club U14s we’re lucky enough to be a part of BBCs live Children in Need show! Accompanied by Club Manager Stacey Etherington, the boys raised money for this fantastic cause by doing exercise with a difference...Zumba style!

Stacey had been contacted personally by the BBC a week prior to the show to ask if the club could help fund raise for Children in Need. When Stacey suggested getting all club members & public onto the pitch to do a Zumba session, the BBC loved the idea!

On Sunday 12th November, Stacey, the clubs members and players all took to the pitch to do their fundraising Zumba class. This event raised £200 and was great fun!

A personal thank you to Kevin Daly for supplying his PA system on the day and to Ben and Rachael of Bubbles Studio who filmed the class. A special mention also goes to the U14s players and parents, as well as everyone else who took a big part on the day.

The BBC were so impressed by our fundraising event, they gave us the opportunity to take 9 rugby players along to the live show. Bens video (which can be found on our Facebook page), made national news and was played several times throughout the evening! Not only did Stacey and the U14s get to be apart of the live show, they performed a Zumba routine while Will and George were interviewed by the presenters about how we got our players raising money for BBC Children in Need.

This has been a fantastic opportunity and great PR for Folkestone Rugby Club. What started as a small fundraising event, became apart of national television!

We now look forward to doing more charitable events as a club, including Sport Relief and are already planning next years event for BBC Children in Need.
