The combined Under 15 ladies from Thanet Dover Deal and Folkestone came together at Thanet Rugby Club to host against Old Colfeians (OC) in the first league fixture of the season.

Channel Ladies Chelsea and Izzy kindly volunteered to help OC’s out with a couple of players for the first half as they were short on numbers.

An initial 5 minutes of play saw the ball changing hands quite a few times with some determined tackling and excellent forwards play from OC’s, Channel finally found the solution to this by shipping the ball out wide and allowing wingers Bella and Wallis to run riot at pace, ably supported by Ella and Macey playing as centres with Tia commanding the effort from number 10. The magic formula had been found and whilst there was some very strong defensive play from OC’s the Barbarians overcame in the first half. Barbarian forwards Freya Jamie Elise and Lizzy played tremendously defending possession at every breakdown.

The second half saw some changes in the Barbarians team, with Honey and Izzy joining the fray. With Carys and Chelsea alternating at scrum half the game was mostly played in OC’s half, however a handling error gave OC’s possession and after running three quarters the length of the field they scored a terrific try under the posts sadly un-converted.
The final score does not reflect the great rugby played by both sides, a good game which was expertly managed by Joe from OC’s as Referee.
