Saturday 9th. March 2019. Shepherd Neame Five Grain 4 East. Report by Jerome Kilbride

On a blustery March afternoon at the New Burlington ground, Folkestone 3rd XV hosted the table-topping Ashford equivalent.

Folkestone were first to cross the white wash after the first of several line breaks from centres Ian Curtis and Jack Cox resulted in a try for Thomas Nunn. The conversion duly converted by an on-form Jerome Kilbride. 7-0 to the hosts.

After trading possession in the windy conditions from handling errors, the Folkestone pack, blended with youth and experience, earned turnovers in the scrum to enable the aforementioned centre pairing to break for tries each. All converted by Kilbride.

Powerful ball-carrier, Shane ‘The Mountain’ Hills concluded the first half scoring grounding in the corner. Folkestone reaped the rewards of their hard work going in at half time 33-7 ahead.
The second half continued with the windy conditions influencing handling errors from both sides. Ashford began to stage a comeback with the space opening up due to a number of yellow cards from both sides. The gap closing to just 2 scores, 40-28. Captain Ross Clark put his faith in the boot of Jerome Kilbride who supplied the 3 points. 43-28.

Ashford rallied again, spending a lot of the remaining time in the Folkestone 22. However, big defence and quick line speed from the backs drove the neighbours back on several occasions.
Ashford managed to score two tries to bring the final score 43-40, the tactical prowess of Ross Clark proving vital.

In a game played in good spirits, despite the cards, the determination, grit and guile of the Folkestone 3rds beat their high-flying neighbours in this local derby.

Errata!! 29 points scored by named people! Timing of the points? Who scored the remaining 14 points? Who received the Yellow Cards?
Timing of substitutions, who for who? Deadline for the press is 12:00 noon on a Monday, so it helps to receive the report by Sunday evening!

I am assuming that the 6 Non-Members paid their 10 pound Match Fee over the Bar!!
