So close to victory and just like last season at Bromley victory was narrowly missed by a last minute score by the opposition.

Folkestone 1st XV 22 Vigo 1st XV 23
Saturday 8th September 2018. London 3SE Report from Alex Ruddock.
The newly promoted Vigo side were a handful for the Stones on Saturday, obviously after a successful season in Kent 1 last season they were up to show that they could make an impact on the League this season. Unfortunately in the first half it looked as if Folkestone had done all the travelling down the M20 and just like last week they got on the wrong side of not only the tackle but also the Referee who in the first 11 minutes awarded Vigo six penalties the first five of which gained ground down the pitch until they converted the sixth to go 0-3 up.
However Stones were defending well but finding it hard to get out of their own half. Several times Seyhan Fell fielded kicks inside his twentytwo and then set off up the wing but was forced into touch on the halfway or just beyond. From the Vigo lineout they then ran the ball back into the hosts twentytwo eventually the stout defending by Stones resulted in another Vigo penalty which they converted. 0-6.
Shortly after Mat Roots suffer a calf strain and was replaced by Bob Porter. At a lineout another penalty was conceded and Vigo kicked for touch, however Jon Morton caught the ball just inside and returned the kick. To touch. Rob Godden was jumping well in the lineout and managed to win the ball which was shifted quickly through several hand to winger Daniel Hillier who made good ground before being tackled and dumped on his head. From the penalty Jon Morton found touch five metres out from the Vigo line, the ball was won and a driving maul resulted in Liam Trinder scoring a well deserved try in the 37 minute. Seyhan Fell just missed the conversion. 5-6.
Soon after Liam Trinder was yellow carded and straight away Vigo struck back with converted a try. 5-13. Callum Palmieri took a bit of a battering at flyhalf and was substituted by Luke Robinson. Folkestone had been under a lot of pressure in the first half, not helped by conceding seven penalties, were not often out of their half.
The second half saw Folkestone defending again on their own line but managed to hold on until they were back to full strength. Soon it was Vigo’s turn to upset the referee and their number 7 was yellow carded. Seyhan Fell kicked the penalty. 8-13. Shortly afterwards Seyhan Fell scored a great try by following a Jon Morton kick and sprinting in under the posts, he duly converted. 15-13. However an injury to Luke Robinson resulted in the return of Callum Palmieri. Vigo infringed again and the kick for the five metres unfortunately went out of play in the deadball area resulting in a Vigo 22 drop out.
Vigo eventually made inroads into the corner and desperate tackling by Callum Palmieri failed to stop the try. The kick was missed. 15-18. Time was now running out for Folkestone as the game entered injury time but Adam Tolman made a clean break and was brought down about eight metres from the posts, Callum Palmieri and Liam Trinder were up in support and eventually Trinder got the touch down and Fell converted. 22-18.
The large crowd thought it was all over after about five minutes of extra time but Vigo were allowed to restart the game and quickly made inroads into the Stones defence and some desperate tackling eventually saw Vigo squeeze over for a try in the corner, however the conversion kick failed so the game then ended. 22-23!! So close to victory and just like last season at Bromley victory was narrowly missed by a last minute score by the opposition.
The defending by the whole team was good but Jordan Godden, Liam Trinder and Scott Stewart were worthy of a mention as was Callum Palmieri, along with Rob Godden on his debut. With the Godden brothers joining forces it helped the other debut players Tom Davey and Luke Robinson settle in well.
Team: Seyhan Fell (Capt.); Thomo Murray; Jon Morton, John Eustace, Daniel Hillier; Callum Palmieri, Adam Tolman; Martin Murray, Tom Davey, Mat Roots; Jack Barton, Rob Godden; Jordan Godden, Liam Trinder, Scott Stewart.
Subs: Bob Porter, Shane Hills, Luke Robinson.
Scorers: Liam Trinder 5, 5; Fell 2, 2, 3, 5
