Can Folkestone Win Again

Sunday 28 August sees the club hosting the annual 15-a-side tournament. Unfortunately the Kent RFU have decided to stage the 1st round of the Kent Cup on the same weekend meaning that some clubs have had to withdraw from the tournament but there will still be plenty of entertaining rugby on display. Judging by last season's league tables Medway start as favourites although Sheppey who have been promoted to London SE3 this season have been signing some talented players to strengthen their squad. As well as winning promotion Sheppey also won the Kent vase last season. Once again we are pleased to welcome back Folkestone Juniors who have moved on to university returning to the club as the University Vandals. Last season they battled their way to the tournament semi final and will be looking for another strong performance here. The social side of rugby is well catered for with an appearance of Boxy's Barbarians and those very naughty Stella Hands characters. The Barbarians is an invitation team to celebrate Alex Box' wedding the previous day. While to Hands, another invitation team, always provide good entertainment and I can report that their mobile HQ is already at the club and, no doubt, full of their favourite beer. Former Folkestone prop, Taavi Ermel, is flying over from Estonia just to earn the treasured Hands shirt.
Having played 2 tough games last week Folkestone coach, Darren Molloy is resting some of his players such as Richard Lama, Ben Flatman, David Baxter and Tom Johnson while Ollie Walton and Steve Doughty are released from the squad to join their Vandals team mates. Ben Brooks, Ollie Brooks and Will Massey are all unavailable. But Molloy is still able to field a strong team giving supporters another chance to see new signings, Rob Hudson, Scotty Evans, Richard Puddy, Michal Krizanek and Jakub Kopfiva.

While you are enjoying the rugby please try to visit Leigh Kedwell's Help4Heroes stall where he will be selling all sorts of things with the money raised going to a worthy cause - our boys and girls all over the world keeping us safe.
Making her debut at the event is Ms Robyn Schafer from the Folkestone Leas Lift and if you ask her nicely she might show you her new tattoo. Then again she might not
The fun starts at 10.30am. Both car parks will be open from 9am.
